Are Leather Armchairs Beneficial If You Have Children?

Monday November 16, 2009

If you have children you will know how untidy and messy they can be. And let’s face it, they don’t tend to think about washing their hands before they go clambering all over the furniture, do they?

That’s why it is worth thinking about the kind of armchairs you are going to buy before you actually go out shopping. Some people opt for darker colours and material covers that can be removed for washing, but there is an easier option.

Leather armchairs are ideal for families with children, because they stand up to all kinds of uses. While you could still do without your kids getting their sticky hands all over them, it doesn’t matter as much if they do. This is because leather is a lot easier to clean. Even if you don’t spot the stain straightaway it can usually be wiped off with a damp cloth at some later stage.

It depends on what the stain is, but it is good to know that you do have something of a fight back against those mucky hands! It goes without saying that not all stains will come off of course – ink is a classic example of a stain that is always harder to remove, no matter what your armchair is made of.

But having said that, leather armchairs are always better for families with children than any other kind of material is. They can quite simply take a lot more of a beating from enthusiastic toddlers and older children than anything else can. Leather does cost more than many other materials, but it is usually money well spent. Just think – you could be buying a leather armchair that will last you for a lot more years than anything else you might buy.

So leather is great at repelling stains and spilt drinks and the like. But what else does it have to offer?

Well, it wears very well also. If you take good care of it – even though you have kids clambering on it – it will give you many years of good service. The best example is the fact that leather ages all on its own, but it doesn’t look tatty or worn for doing so. In fact, many people prefer the look of aged leather to brand new leather. Think about old Chesterfield sofas and armchairs for example: many libraries, pubs and other outlets have old lumpy armchairs made from leather that help to give the place character. And the same applies to your own leather armchairs – they can help to give your home a character all of its own.

They can be very comfy as well, and provide the ideal place for your kids to curl up when they are too tired to play any more. In short, it doesn’t matter how you look at it, leather armchairs are tough enough to withstand most of the things that kids can throw at them – sometimes literally!

Isn’t it time you thought about buying one or more for your own home?
